Global Entrepreneurship Week – fueling the passion for entrepreneurship!

By Ali Suleman

Global Entrepreneurship Week ke baray mei tou suna hi hoga. Nahi suna? Tou ab sun lo! :D

Global Entrepreneurship Week hay dunya ki sab se bari celebration of the innovators and job creators jo launch kartay hain startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.

November ke kisi aik week, GEW walay dunya bhar mei logon ko inspire kartay hain local, national aur global activities ke through. In ke zarye new innovators apna potential explore kar saktay hain jo un ke andar hota hay.

Is week hua in ka event Marriott Islamabad mei. 14th November ko is grand event ke andar aik session hua Islamabad Chamber of Commerce ki facilitation se. Us mei Hammad Saddiqui (Deputy Country Director of CIPE) ne aghaz kiya apni presentation ka. Unho ne baat ki ke Pakistan ne 55 hazaar registered companies hain. lekin lowest entrepreneurship rate in South Asia is that of Pakistan. Pakistan mei 200 multinational companies hain. Phir discuss hua ke opportunities kia kia hain? Zahir hay jahan problems hain, wahin pe opportunities bhi hain :)

Hammad sahab ne kaha ke Entrepreneurship ka matlab hi passion hay. You are inspired to get motivated, you don’t get motivated to get inspired. Bad economy se humesha ziada opportunities generate hoti hain, specially entrepreneurship aur trainings ki.

Phir discuss hua ke banks bohot achi option nahi hain for startup businesses kyunke mostly banks 30% se ziada markup lagatay hain aur koi bhi startup itna earn kar hi nahi sakta.

Phir akhir kaar decide ye hua ke you don’t need money for startup, you just need an idea. :) Hammad sahib ne bataya ke Earnest & Young ke aik June 2010 ke survey se pata lagta hay ke 60% entrepreneurs ne pehlay graduation ke baad kuch arsa job ki, aur phir apna business start kiya, kyunke they wanted to learn first. According to Richard Benson, creativity is not about making something new, it’s about giving a new experience.

Phir baat hui intellectual property registration ke baray mei, jo ke next to impossible hay Pakistan mei :P Hammad sahib ke mutabiq, Business Plans competitions sab se ziada demotivating exercises hain. It was also established and agreed up0n ke dry mahol mei learning nahi ho pati. Pakistan mei company banana itna mushkil nahi hay jitna ke company wind up karna, isi waja se most multinational fear to start their businesses in Paksitan. Khair, SECP is per kaam kar rahi hay. InshaAllah, we’ll all hear a good news soon. :) aur us news ke liay apko www.shashca.com tou visit karna hi paray ga :P

Siddiqi sahib ne kaha ke Facebook Pakistan mei best marketing mediums mei se aik hay. Aur phir ye bhi bataya ke na sirf Pakistan mei, balkeh poori dunya mei 85% businesses litigate ho jatay hain sirf is waja se ke wo log koi paper work aur documentation nahi kartay, bus verbally agreement kar ke samajhtay hain ke scene on hay :D

Phir aik aur successful entrepreneur janab Abid Butt sahib ke sath hua skype session. Un ki company mashaAllah Asia ki 3rd fastest growing company hay according to Howard. Un ka kehna tha ke un ko kafi pehlay hi pata lag gya tha ke wo agar apna business karain gay tou hi kamyaab hongay, kyunke he has never been good with authority and he didn’t like to follow orders. Unho ne kaha ke wo business family se belong nahi kartay lekin still jab wo 28 years k thay tab unho ne apni logistics company shuru karnay ka decision lay lia, aur aisi logistic company jo poori supply chain management ko handle karay. Aur aaj un ki progress aisi hay ke last 3 years mei unho ne 3 new companies start kar di hain mashaAllah se,  jin mei aik agriculture company aur aik HR company shamil hain.

Phir hua aik question answer session Abid Butt sahib ke sath hi. First question was ke how can one acquire initial investment for starting up a new venture. Us ke jawab mei Butt sahib ne kaha ke start small, then with time you’ll be able to go big. Zaroori nahi ke you start with a bang and grab the whole market at once. Unho ne apni example di ke he started with Rupees 2 million, 10 people and 1 office. Unho ne mazeed kaha ke agar idea mei dum hay tou investment khud aaey gi. Aur tou aur unho ne ye bhi kaha ke growth capital hasil karnay ke liay aik dafa unho ne apna makaan tak sale kar dia so these all are options.

Second question was ke what are the basic tips for emerging entrepreneurs. Butt sahib ne kaha ke there is no hard to fast rule for that, bus yehi ke har problem ko as an opportunity lena chahye aur risk taking ka matlab sirf ye hay ke kisi bhi opportunity ki risk assessment durust ki jaey, aur jis cheez mei baqi log ziada risk dekh rahay hain, ap us mei kam risk dekhain aur phir apka analysis theek bhi ho. Plus ye ke agar aap aik achay entrepreneur hain tou aap kisi bhi company ke liay aik bohot achay asset hain :)

Lekin at the same time, obstacles are opportunities to learn and grow. :)

Is ke baad certificates distribute huay aur tea hui jis mei sab participants, organizers aur speakers ne apas mei khoob socializing ki. Aur bus phir GEW ka the end hogya ^_^

Jatay jatay Adnan Shahid sahab ka bohot thank you kar dain ke unho ne Shashca ko is event mei invite kiya :)
